THE HUMANOID - OR ADVANCED AI - CAN DESTROY ALL OF HUMANKIND

Hello

In today's update, I'd like to offer another reason why I believe Humanoid Robots should be banned.

"They Can Destroy Humankind"

Since the rise of the Large Language Model (tools like ChatGPT), technologists in the industry have sounded the alarm about the possible dangers these types of tools pose for humanity.  Most recently, Jacob Coxon - a former employee of Anthropic (an AI company) told Anderson Cooper on CNN that he believed this technology could destroy humankind. Many other leaders - including Elon Musk - have repeated these warnings. They seem to collectively agree that there’s a 10-15% chance ‘AI’ empowered robots could destroy all humankind.

These outcries seem to be unprecedented - besides perhaps the nuclear program, have there been more industry experts who cautioned against the results of their labor?

Their concern seems to take a range of forms. Some say these machines might become capable of self-improvement to a blinding extent that enables them to override and subdue or kill humanity; others say that the over-abundance of goods and services enabled by automation might wholly obsolete the human being - and render us permanently without purpose; some fear these technologies will exacerbate the human  tendencies for power, resulting in an immortal global technocratic kingdom - leaving the majority of us as economically irrelevant surfs under some neo-feudalism.

This to say, decriers believe there are many dangerous paths we may go -  and among the most dangerous take us all to our own literal extinction.

Of all the technologies, the Humanoid Robot may be the one most likely to thrust us down a dystopian path. Specialized technologies that do specific things - at least give us a chance to negotiate what our future may look like on some incremental timeframe, as we install new systems at our discretion. But the Humanoid robot, being universally capable, immediately obsoletes us - and creates a clear path for the worst things to happen at their most unrestrained pace.  We mustn’t give up our ability to negotiate what we want our future to be.

Thank you for signing and sharing this petition.

Sincerely,

Michael Christensen-
