Keep Edinburgh Moving
Jul 29, 2023

In November 2022, the council moved most of the Spaces for People schemes from Temporary Traffic Restriction Orders (TTROs) to Experimental Traffic Restriction Orders (ETROs). These were supposed to be in place for 18 months before the schemes were made permanent.

However due to errors by council staff and contractors, these traffic orders were withdrawn from the council website and lamp post notices were removed. A press report in April said the entire process would need to be restarted.

However, three months later, the process has not yet been restarted. The schemes covering up to 20 miles of Edinburgh streets are still in place, but the legally required traffic orders are not advertised on the council website.

If you’re affected by a Spaces for People scheme, then you can ask the council and your local councillors for:

  • evidence that it is lawful for it to be in place
  • if it has been in place without the correct legal paperwork
  • how long has it been in place without the correct legal paperwork

This petition is still open for signatures.
