Team, As we move closer to the March 20 deadline for Congresswoman Veronica Escobar’s review, we have identified three major risks that the City has not fully addressed. We need to let our leaders know that this isn't just about the money—it’s about our safety. 1. The Monsoon Threat ⛈️ Our city already struggles with drainage during monsoon season. Adding a 6-acre concrete "lid" over I-10 creates a "bathtub effect." If those drains clog with desert sand and debris, we risk catastrophic flooding on the highway below and in our downtown businesses. 2. "Non-Breathable" Air 💨 Building a massive deck over a freeway traps vehicle exhaust. Without constant, expensive ventilation, the air quality for drivers underneath and families on top could reach dangerous levels. We shouldn't have to choose between a park and breathable air. 3. Structural Integrity & Collapse 🏗️ An engineering project of this scale, built over a high-traffic interstate, carries immense risks. With a price tag of $207 million and rising, any structural failure would be a disaster for our community. What you can do today: Please share this update! We need to demand answers on how the city plans to manage drainage and air quality before a single dollar more is spent.
