Recently, it was revealed that the county has been secretly working on a data center ordinance since at least last October. No public input was sought, and no information was given to the public until now.
This ordinance is proposing allowing data centers by right in certain industrial zones. Thus, in these zones, data centers can be created without any additional permits, hearings, or public input. These zones will be located next to neighborhoods near Murchison Road, Shaw Mill Road, and Bragg Boulevard.
This ordinance shifts the future of our community into the hands of corporations, and we cannot allow it to pass. As the residents of Fayetteville and Cumberland County, we are the ones who deserve to shape the future of our home—not a data center developer.
Join Fayetteville Freedom for All (FFA) in speaking out against these predatory data centers! To get involved, join two upcoming events and check out the toolkit.
FFA will hold a teach-in lecture on Saturday, March 21 at 4pm at Bordeaux Community Library, Activity Room (3711 Village Dr, Fayetteville).
FFA is also holding a press conference on Monday, March 23 at 5:45pm at Judge E. Maurice Braswell Courthouse, room 118 (117 Dick St, Fayetteville).
Please show out and spread the word! Together, we are strong!
