Sumit County Friends,
Despite failing in their attempt to subvert the will of the people of Summit County and ramming a corrupt Bill through the Utah State Legislature to get to plaster Kimball Junction with more condos, Dakota Pacific is back to try get their way. Specifically they have somehow convinced the Summit County County to expedite the approval of their Project, despite there being absolute no reason for the County to do so.
This is very surprising as the County had won the first part of the litigation against SB84 and is in a position of strength. At the same time, as a community we clearly said “NO” to Plan C (including the new 750 homes) which is the very plan the County is now expediting through Council at warp speed. Also, on the merits nothing has changed that would suddenly favor an approval of the Dakota Pacific project. Specifically,
- UDOT still doesn’t have Kimball Junction improvements on its 10-year plan. It does plan to choose a course of action this year. SO 224 traffic is NOT getting fixed for A VERY LONG TIME forcing more traffic than we can handle. It is already backed up to the 7-11 daily, how are we expected to deal with 3,000 more cars in Kimball for 10 years?
- Dakota Pacific still DOES NOT have a way to create a Senior Center as they simply “don’t do that”, so if you are a Senior Citizen and thinking this is a WIN, it isn’t. They have publicly said they don’t have a partner. Just a potential location. It’s lazy and similar to all of the lies we have been told by Dakota Pacific for years.
- Dakota Pacific says they can build a tech park tomorrow if they don't get approval from their condo project. But, we all know they aren’t because they never intended to build it. If they could make money at it, they would have already built it and as they stated previously “We have an obligation to make a profit for our shareholders, so we can’t build the Tech Park”.
- This is the same group of people that had the UT legislature pass a corrupt bill to force Summit County to build their Plan C, so it is pretty clar this group doesn’t care about this community at all.
So what is going on? Something looks very fishy! In addition:
- the dates for County Councils' expedited approval process are during Sundance and the President’s Day break, so it will reduce the community's ability to have fair representation.
- A number of the County Council members (Melania and Roger) are continuing closed door back room meetings with Dakota Pacific. Why? Why are we back to these back room dealings when we were in a position of strength?
- Why is this being done within 30 days after YEARS of the community saying “no”?
- Why is all of this being jammed into this tight timeline WHILE THE STATE LEGISLATURE IS STILL IN SESSION?
So what is really going on? As residents and voters of Summit County we deserve to hear the truth!
