PASSAIC COUNTY RESIDENTS AGAINST ASPHALT PLANT
The Issue
STOP TOTOWA ASPHALT PLANT NOW! 200 West End Road Totowa
PLEASE PROTECT OUR CHILDREN-THEY'RE OUR FUTURE
Do not allow the Totowa Board of Adjustment to approve the construction of a 24/7 OPERATION of a HOT ASPHALT PLANT in town. The proposed site plan is already a heavily occupied area and the proposed plan is strongly objected by both neighboring businesses and local residents. Contaminants from asphalt plant will spread for miles including the neighboring towns of Little Falls, Woodland Park and Wayne.
*Long Term Health Effects to our Children, Seniors and the Community at Large
*Hazardous Air Contaminates
*Negative Effect on Groundwater Quality
*Decreased Property Values
*Traffic Nightmare
*Noise Pollution
*Destruction of Trees
*Already High Water Table with Flooding Issues
*Overall Negative Influence on our Quality of Life
Board of Adjustment Meeting-NOVEMBER 8th, at 7:30pm (Totowa Boro Municipal Building - 2nd floor)
The extreme negative public health outcomes of the asphalt manufacturing process are well documented. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has noted, “Asphalt processing and asphalt roofing manufacturing facilities are major sources of hazardous air pollutants such as formaldehyde, hexane, phenol, polycyclic organic matter, and toluene. Exposure to these air toxins may cause cancer, central nervous system problems, liver damage, respiratory problems and skin irritation.”
