Dear Friends,
There are 2 days of rallies planned on July 24 th and 25th.
Here is link to the flyer for details Rally Flyer july 24-25th
- First Rally July 24 from 1PM-6PM at Regional Medical Center
- Caravan to Good Sam on July 25 from 3PM-5PM (start at RMC, leave for Good Sam at 3:30PM, Rally at Good Sam from 4PM-5PM).
Please join the rallies and show your support for maintaining the Trauma, Comprehensive Stroke and STEMI programs at RMC, serving about 900000 lives. There should be no bargaining when issue is choice between life and death . We are not asking HCA to make new programs but to preserve what we have all ready in the community . These are important emergency health assets for community now and for future generations .
1. You need 1200 trauma activations for a level 1 We had 2450 on annual basis And we do qualify for level 1 except teaching and research we are lacking to make it level 1 . CMO of RMC had mentioned previously that RMC is considering applying for level 1 in next couple of years
2.Based on the California requirements Level 1/2 both need following surgical subspecialties on call and immediately available
Trauma surgeon , Ortho , Neurosurgery , Ob/Gyn, ENT, ophthalmology , Urology , Plastic surgery , Anaesthesia in house
3. Trauma 3 center : Has General surgeon on call ( may not be even trauma trained ), not in house with 30 minutes response time . Ortho is also on call 24 hrs but will lose neurosurgeon , ENT, Opthomology, Urology , Plastics and Anesthesia (around the clock ). So Level 3 Trauma center will be highly inadequate and insufficient to meet demands of highest number of trauma victims in the county.
4. Neurosurgeons are essential for trauma and stroke programs . 30 % stroke pts are brain bleeds and need neurosurgeons. Neurosurgeons are a safety net for NeuroIR docs who remove brain clots
5. STEMI program loss is a big loss . Essentially RMC catchment area will be without emergency Cath lab , STEMI cardiologist as well as emergency interventions including opening of blocked arteries which will be put everyone including incoming as well as admitted patients prone for major harm and even death in some cases . RMC will be only major hospital in Bay Area without cardiac Cath and STEMI program round the clock
