Good day we are Grade 11 This is our petition in ICT for this semester. I am writing this to express my deep concern and to gather support for an issue that affects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Philippines specifically, the escalating territorial claims made by China in the West Philippine Sea.
China has been occupying and building military bases on several reefs and islands within the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines, despite a ruling against their actions by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in 2016. The West Philippine Sea holds strategic, economic, and ecological significance for the Philippines. It is not only an important fishing ground but also believed to be rich in natural resources, including oil and gas reserves. Moreover, it is a vital part of our cultural heritage and serves as a home to diverse marine ecosystems.
China's aggressive movements of military and policies, as demonstrated by their territorial claims and construction of artificial islands within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Philippines, also that it destroys our ecosystem, and poses a grave threat to regional stability, peace, and security. These actions disregard the principles of international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Also Chinese abuses all the military supplies and the local fisherman which is sickening to all of us.
Therefore, I, along with the undersigned concerned citizens, kindly request the following actions to be taken.
1. We urge to work closely with relevant international organizations, such as the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to put diplomatic pressure on China, encouraging them to respect the principles of international law and to engage in peaceful negotiations to resolve territorial disputes.
2. Mobilize international support and diplomatic efforts to push China into respecting the international law, including the UNCLOS, and following peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms..
3. Strengthening of coastal defense capabilities: It is imperative that the Philippine government, with the support of every military branches. Enhance its naval and coast guard capabilities to protect our sovereign territory, preserve maritime security, and ensure the safety of our fishermen and other stakeholders operating in the West Philippine Sea.
4. We must raise this treats to actively engage in international campaigns, raising awareness about the territorial claims in the West Philippine Sea and garnering support from the international community. Collaboration with foreign governments, civil society organizations, and human rights advocates will help amplify our cause and further pressure China to abide by international norms and conventions.
By signing this petition, we, the concerned citizens of the Philippines and supporters from around the world, express our solidarity and call for immediate action to protect the sovereignty of the Philippines and the rights of our fellow Filipinos in the West Philippine Sea.
We trust that you will give due consideration to our concerns and take appropriate actions to address this pressing issue. We are confident that by working together, we can achieve a just and peaceful resolution on ourself and the countries involved.
