By now, all CA state Assembly Members and Senators received the following letter formalizing this opposition and asking for their support.

As a concerned citizen and a member of the Christian community, I believe this bill carries significant symbolic and cultural implications that must be considered before it proceeds any further. I respectfully urge you to reconsider its introduction and passage.

The title of this bill, specifically the number "666," holds profound meaning in Christian tradition. In the Bible, particularly in the Book of Revelation, 666 is referred to as the "number of the Beast" and is often associated with the Antichrist or evil forces. This number has long been a symbol of fear, corruption, and malevolence. The inclusion of such a number in the title of a legislative bill may unintentionally convey a message of negativity or malice, potentially alienating many in our community who deeply value the Christian significance attached to this number.

Additionally, the word "cryptic" itself, derived from the Latin term crypticus meaning "hidden" or "secret," adds to the unsettling nature of the bill’s title. The term evokes a sense of mystery or concealment, which may unintentionally suggest that the true motives behind the bill are unclear or ambiguous. This adds to the concerns of those who fear that the bill could undermine transparency or public trust in the legislative process.

Given the deep symbolism of these terms, I believe it is essential that lawmakers carefully consider the cultural and religious implications before proceeding with AB 666. The choice of language and symbolism matters, and in this case, it may risk causing unnecessary division and discomfort among many of your constituents, particularly those of Christian faith.

I urge your support in opposition to this bill so the title and motive of this bill is reconsidered and work toward a solution that better reflects the values of inclusivity, clarity, and respect for all communities. A more thoughtful approach to this legislation would undoubtedly be more effective and resonate positively with the public.
