Stop bus lane through Dundrum's Library Square
The Issue
Outside the Carnegie Library in Dundrum lies the library square. It is an essential community space and biodiversity haven which people use to meet, to chat, to read or just to rest under the shade of the Cyprus tree.
Dunlaoghaire Rathdown County Council are now proposing to construct a bus lane running right through this area to the detrimental of all of the above, without consideration of the damage and implications to the community
While we recognise the importance of developing efficient public transport systems, we must take into account the repercussions on vital community spaces.
This library square is nestled in a very busy pedestrian zone, on the axis of the Luas, Finsbury Park playground, the old shopping centre, Dundrum village, the routes to Dundrum Town Centre, and the Parish Churches, .
It is a lovely spot to have a moment of tranquility in your day under the cool shade of the large tree.
Bus routes and lanes are currently working well in Dundrum with the bus station ideally situated beside the Luas station.
Let us act now to preserve Dundrum's Library Square for current and future generations.
Ensure the space remains a thriving hub for people and biodiversity – not replaced by asphalt and exhaust fumes.
We urge Dunlaoghaire Rathdown County Council to reconsider their plans and work with the community to find a more sustainable solution.
Please sign this petition to show your support for protecting Library Square in Dundrum, securing a vibrant legacy for our community and nature alike.
