Today I spoke with Tony Ferrier the Acting General Manager of Kingborough Council who confirmed that the Bruny Island Airport is saved!
If the truth be known it appears it was never fully the intention of the council to close the airport but it was the best way to get a response.
There is very little to read however the verbatim audio file of the minutes of 9th July 2018 is detailed. (at 20min in) and involves numerous councillors with generally positive comments.

The council was surprised at the depth of feeling about the airport and it appears that many who responded thought removing the only airstrip on the island was ludicrous.
Council also discussed the $31K annual maintenance cost which seems excessive for an uncertified airstrip.
There is a consortium of locals who may be taking on a straight 20 year lease of the airstrip. Tony mentioned that running airports is not a core function of the council who are more risk averse than most and would prefer the airport is either gifted or leased reducing their risk and responsibility.
There was an agreement that there be a follow up report by 9th October 2018 on the state of play of the lease which has yet to occur hence the delay in establishing victory!
