Mise à jour sur la pétitionSTOP the mayor from closing Bruny Island's only airport!Let’s get this strip sealed!

Southern Tasmanian councils highlight the concerns of our increasing car centric culture.
The advent of recreational aviation with cheaper, safer, single engine aircraft and reduced licensing requirements have lead to increased aircraft ownership and demands on hangarage around Australia.
It’s vital airports like Bruny Island get protection from subdivision and change of use.
You wouldn’t subdivide a road or sell it why should it be so easy to do with an airstrip?
Given the tourism potential and the inevitable population increase hopefully this airstrip may be sealed one day. (The attached photo is an example of what it would look like)
Yesterday I wrote to Senator Abetz requesting that small public airports like Bruny Island are protected through heritage listing or some other land use mechanism. Maybe we need a WW2 relic?
I also asked the senator that if this airport should close maybe a shared road/airstrip maybe a possibility for emergency landings. (Imagine PAL stop lights on the isthmus?)
I’ll let you know when I hear from either the mayor or Senator Abetz.
Best Regards
