Thank you for your prompt response, and for cc'ing the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree as well, whom I am including in this email. This is encouraging to see. As mentioned, I do see the need for national security, but this is not the way to do it in a democratic society.

And judging by the ever-growing number of signatures on this petition, and the concerns being raised by independent news outlets covering this issue, I am clearly not the only one who thinks so. 

As an 'Elbows Up' organizer, I thought I would only be protesting Trump's threats and tariffs. I had not expected to have to protest something coming right from within our own government. This bill is clearly an attempt to appease Trump and that is not something we should be doing and, thereby, compromising our own country's values and the rights of our citizens and our immigrants. Canada must always remain our "True North Strong and Free".
