Dear Supporters,
Thank you for your patience during our recent silence. While quiet on updates, we've been working tirelessly behind the scenes. Today, we're excited to announce a significant development: the establishment of the Berwick Springs Community Association (BSCA). The aim of the BSCA is to protect our name, heritage, surroundings, and ensure we live in a multicultural, multifaith, inclusive community. Visit our new website to learn more: https://berwicksprings.com.au/
We've documented our case across three key areas:
- OUR HERITAGE: Discover the rich 170-year history behind our name (click Here).
- NO RESPECT: See the timeline revealing the complete lack of consultation (click Here).
- ONE COMMUNITY: Learn how this unilateral and divisive decision impacts our community (click Here).
The BSCA stands ready to engage with Government and provide assistance in proper community consultation. We understand Brad Battin MP's consultation paper has already received nearly 1,000 submissions, showing the strength of community feeling on this issue.
Our investigation, including freedom of information requests, has uncovered concerning facts about the renaming process. Both Melbourne Water and the City of Casey declined to lead the consultation process, yet the Victorian State Government proceeded anyway through ministerial direction. Simply put, the Minister for Planning mandated the name change, dismissing the well-established place naming rules and totally disregarding the sound democratic principle of involving the community in decisions that affect them.
More updates will follow as our campaign continues. The BSCA will utilise all available means to protect our community's voice, preserve our heritage, and ensure a proper democratic process.
