all 240,000 of you! Wow - Your support is totally overwhelming.

so, on Tuesday next week, the group I’m with Aotearoa Water Action (AWA), is heading to the COA in Wellington. (17-18 Aug 2021).

This will give us the best chance of overturning a High Court Decision, that:
 

1) Allows Cloud Ocean Water and Rapaki Natural Resources Limited to use more than 8 billion litres of water per year for bottled water export.

2) Has implications for the way water is allocated across New Zealand, making it a simple exercise to change the use of existing water permits without being able to alter the conditions of the water 'take'.  

3) Effectively increases the rights of water permit holders and supports a market for water via land sales.

4) Suggests that when granting consents for water bottling, the effects of plastic bottles on the environment can not be considered

5) Did not adequately consider the concerns of local iwi/Maori.

So that’s why the serious fundraising needs happens….

 
Now, if you feel like you're having a deja vu moment you're not going mad - we HAVE run this Court of Appeal campaign once before... 

With NZ's help we raised $55,000 to get to the Court of Appeal, but the High Court took us by surprise and awarded the respondants over $70,000 in costs.  

After paying that hefty sum, we still have some funds in the bank -  BUT, we need to raise at least another $30,000 for our legal bills.

N.B. Our committee team is 100% happily unpaid, so every cent you give goes towards legal costs.

Finally, if we win (and we truly think we can), any money left unspent, and any costs awarded in our favour, will be set aside for other community legal cases that aim to protect our wai.
