Here's Tenaska's response when asked by Q13 a couple months ago:
"FOX 13 also reached out to the Nebraska-based company to see if Tenaska
still has plans to move forward in the future. They did not give a yes or no
answer, but Alex Martin with Tenaska answered it this way:
"Kingfisher's location is dictated by the interconnection into the Berrydale
Substation, a much larger high-voltage electrical facility that currently coexists
with the community. The team is committed to developing a safe BESS project at
the best available site for delivering needed energy storage benefits. The team values stakeholder engagement and will continue incorporating local feedback throughout the process."
Yet, they have withdrawn their King County Permit applicaiton and are planning on submitting their application to the WA State Governor through the Washington State Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) where the sole approval power is held by the Governor and he can by-pass any laws, moratoriums, policies, and anything else at the local level.
We need to reach out to Bob Fergusen as soon as he has his contact info available as the as the new Governor to get him to deny Tenaska permitting approval next to Mattson Middle School.
The fight is still on going so please keep talking about the Mattson Middle School BESS with anyone and everyone that will listen!
FYI, Tenaska has submitted their first application to the EFSEC for their proposed BESS next to Sedro Woolley.
No one was notified. No one knew the public meeting was being held.
The EFSEC and Tenaska hoped to sneak into town, check the box saying they held a pubic meeting and sneak out.
Fortunately, people found out just days before the meeting and showed up in force- they have takena stand and have had a bunch of Media Coverage...
But, Tenaska doesn't care. They found a property owner willing to sell and are pushing hard (and bypassing local communities) to get permit approval at the state level through the EFSEC.
And, the Covington/Mattson Middle School BESS will be the next application submitted very soon!
