PSA: Battery Energy Storage System proposed Ordinance update and discussion next Tuesday 9/26/23 at 9:30am at the King County Local Services & Land Use committee meeting.

King County Council member Perry has developed an amendment to her BESS ordinance, which incorporates thoughts and concerns we heard from a variety of stakeholders over the last several weeks. The amendment will be briefed, discussed, and potentially voted on to advance to the full King County Council at the Sept. 26th Local Services & Land Use committee meeting scheduled for 9:30am.

Councilmember Perry believes this amendment moves us forward, and looks forward to hearing additional questions and feedback to ensure that, together, we develop the strongest proposal possible. I am providing information below on how to participate in public comment at the Sept. 26th committee meeting:

There are three ways to provide public comment:

  1. In person: You may attend the meeting and provide comment in the Council Chambers at the King County Courthouse: 516 Third Ave, Floor 10, Seattle, WA 98104

2. By email: You may comment in writing on current agenda items by submitting your email comments to kcccomitt@kingcounty.gov

If your email is received before 8:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting, your email comments will be distributed to the committee members and appropriate staff prior to the meeting.

3. Remote attendance at the meeting by phone or computer: You may provide oral comment on current agenda items during the meeting’s public comment period by connecting to the meeting via phone or computer using the ZOOM application at https://zoom.us/
, and entering the webinar ID number: 875 1751 7363

If you can't join the meeting, please email your concerns before 8am next Tuesday to: kcccomitt@kingcounty.gov

And, please tell everyone you know! The only way we will stop this, is if we join together and fight for Mattson and our Community.

The City Council for Covington officially opposes the BESS, as does the KSD Board, Reagan Dunn, and Chris Stearns and we hope you and everyone you know will join the fight to stop this massive battery energy storage facility from being located next to your school.

 Thank you,

James
