In 2015 we all helped stop the Ports of Auckland wharf extensions. Now Auckland Council wants to add a massive 90 m concrete and steel mooring extension to Queens Wharf.

They’re about to spend $10 million of your money pouring more concrete into our harbour to create two massive structures with connecting gangways just to dock a few oversized, foreign-owned cruise ships that arrive in the morning and are gone by the afternoon.

There are viable alternatives to dock the oversized cruise ships. Existing port facilities have been used before for the big ships, so let’s use them again.

Help save our harbour for future generations and stop Auckland Council selling it off for a few extra dollars, most of which will end up in the pockets of foreign-owned shipping corporations.

We want to celebrate a waterfront that will accommodate the commercial, environmental and social opportunities of a growing city. With smart and innovative thinking rather than knee-jerk, ad hoc, short-term planning, Auckland’s waterfront and harbour can sustain our exciting economic growth as well as retaining its world renowned natural beauty.
