The Issue

"We urge the Government and Parliament to introduce new legislation and grant additional powers to local authorities and law enforcement agencies to more effectively address antisocial behaviour. This includes:

- Increased powers for issuing and enforcing Community Protection Notices (CPNs).

- Strengthened measures to tackle persistent offenders and repeat offences.

- New laws to address emerging forms of antisocial behaviour, such as online harassment and nuisance.

- Greater authority for local councils to implement and enforce Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs).

- Enhanced collaboration between police, local councils, and housing associations to share information and coordinate responses to antisocial behaviour."

Antisocial behaviour is more than just a minor inconvenience; it's a corrosive force that degrades our neighbourhoods and leaves residents feeling unsafe and vulnerable. I've personally endured harassment and even a physical attack, giving me firsthand knowledge of how profoundly it shatters one's sense of peace and security.

Every day, countless individuals are targeted and verbally abused in public spaces. They face a barrage of shouting, intimidation, and outright aggression simply for existing. Whether it's a casual stroll down the street, waiting for a bus, or enjoying a park, the threat of encountering such behaviour looms large. People are made to feel unwelcome in their own communities, forced to endure a constant barrage of negativity and hostility.

This constant threat creates an environment of fear, making people hesitant to leave their homes or participate in community life. The elderly become prisoners in their own residences, afraid to venture out for fear of encountering abuse. Parents worry about their children's safety as they walk to school or play in the park. And ordinary citizens find themselves constantly on edge, scanning their surroundings for potential threats.

It's time for robust new laws and powers to reclaim our communities from this pervasive problem. We need legislation that empowers local authorities and law enforcement agencies to effectively address antisocial behaviour, deter offenders, and protect victims. This includes measures such as increased police presence in affected areas, stricter penalties for offenders, and greater support for community-based initiatives aimed at preventing and addressing antisocial behaviour.

By taking decisive action, we can send a clear message that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities. We can create a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone, where people feel free to live their lives without fear of harassment or abuse. It's time to reclaim our streets, our parks, and our public spaces, and restore a sense of peace and security to our neighbourhoods.

Having personally experienced harassment and even attack, I know firsthand the urgent need for stronger laws to reclaim our communities and protect everyone.

Everyone has the right to feel safe in there community
