Recently, Cr Linda Scott brought a motion to the City of Sydney Council in an effort to stop Honey Birdette’s serial p*rn themed displays in a local shopping centre. The development follows four years of advocacy by Forest Lodge Public School and Inner West Parents Group.

Supported by the majority of council members, the motion requested that Clover Moore, Lord Mayor of Sydney, writes to relevant federal Ministers calling for changes to the advertising system to help rein in serial non-compliers repeatedly found in breach of the voluntary advertising code of ethics. Lord Mayor Moore will also write to the Shopping Centre Council of Australia seeking their support for a ‘mandatory change to all lease agreements to include compliance with advertising standards.’

Leigh Morgan, a member of the Parents Group, said that she is hopeful that these changes which prioritise the safety and wellbeing of women and children in her community will be implemented. She said that they could potentially be replicated by other city councils where community members are exposed to Honey Birdette’s p*rn themed ads, "Our kids under the age of 12 are receiving unsolicited images, like choking, while they are just walking out of Leggo and Smiggle. The investigation has found the store guilty of that, again and again and again."

We've updated the list of petition decision makers and we're in the process of sending the petition to all of Honey Birdette’s current landlords. I’ll let you know if I hear back from any of the shopping centre CEOs. In the meantime, help me reach 80k signatures by sharing the petition with your friends and family - we’re so close!

Thanks for your support,

Kenneth & Collective Shout
