Dear Petition Supporters,
Looking at the Scentre Group website would have you think that they are responsible corporate citizens, concerned or at least interested in the welfare of their staff and patrons.
This is the definition of Hypocrisy:
hy·poc·ri·sy (hĭ-pŏk′rĭ-sē)
n. pl. hy·poc·ri·sies
1. The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.
My friend Lyn Kennedy writes on Collective Shout, "Scentre Group promotes awareness and supports victims of domestic violence. They also allow displays of sexualised imagery - the very type that perpetuates harmful stereotypes and is correlated with violence against women."
She's got a point. While admirable that they say that they support victims of domestic violence, they show their true attitudes towards women through their inaction, allowing Honey Birdette to display such flagrant pornified pictures of women that lead to disrespect towards them. All violence begins with disrespect. This is serious.
Of course, this is not the only example of Scentre Group hypocrisy.
Thank you for your continued support. Please continue to share this petition and write to your local members and centre managements. We'll keep up the pressure.
