Emergency protest: Downing Street, 6pm, Thursday 6th February against mass deportation to Jamaica

ZITA HOLBOURNE
LONDON, ENG, United Kingdom

Feb 1, 2020 —

Dear Supporter

The government has organised another charter flight mass deportation to Jamaica, one year after the last one. This is expected to take place on 11th February and we have received confirmation from several people now that they have been served with a removal notice for this date. Up to 50 people could be deported on this flight, people who will be torn apart from families including children, who have lived most of their lives in the UK and including people who are going through appeals with the Home Office. Over the past week, there has been an escalation in people being detained whilst attending their regular signing in session with the Home Office and then transferred to removal centres.

We believe that given the Windrush Scandal and the failure of the government to adequately compensate (with the vast majority receiving no compensation to date) those entitled to it for the heartache and devestatation they have endured because they were targeted for detention and deportations, that there should be no deportations and that the government must leave Caribbean communities in the UK alone and stop targeting them.

The protest will commence at 6pm on Thursday 6th February. It has been called by BARAC UK and BAME Lawyers for Justice which is an umbrella for a range of black, race equality and Windrush justice groups. We need to send a strong message to the government, please invite your families and friends and bring your organisation banners.
