Dear Supporters
It is been a while since we last sent an update to you
We are receiving alarming reports of people, originally from Jamaica, being detained whilst signing in with the Home Office this week. In addition it looks likely that there could be a charter flight to Jamaica in the first half of February.
So this update is to alert those who have family or friends who could be impacted as the turn around could be very fast and you are advised to get urgent legal support if you don't already have this in place but also to ask you all to raise concerns with the Home Office.
Given the Windrush Scandal, the fact that many people have not yet applied for compensation because the process is complicated and they cannot afford legal support and that the negative impacts of their hostile policies are on not just the Windrush generation but their subsequent generations of family joining them in the UK, it is disgraceful that one year after the last such charter flight to Jamaica people who are low hanging fruit, complying with Home Office procedures by signing in weekly or fortnightly are being rounded up as if they are sheep rather than human beings with no warning and taken to detention centres in worrying numbers.
There is also an emergency demo organised by Movement for Justice outside the Jamaican High Commission in London, at 12 noon on Monday 3rd of February. Details here; https://facebook.com/events/s/emergency-demo-no-to-jamaica-c/180497536377254/?ti=as
If you are on Twitter , you could tweet @ukhomeoffice and Home Secretary Priti Patel @patel4witham to say that there should not be any charter flights to Jamaica.
Please use the hashtags #endcharterflights #nodeportations #Jamaica50.
We will keep you updated over the coming days as we find out more.
Thanks for your support.
Regards
Zita
