Current plans are for bridge openings and closings to be equally divided between rail and marine traffic during four-hour periods from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to Brightline’s 2018 lawsuit settlement with Martin County. The bridge will be required to be open at least 15 consecutive minutes per hour during those times.
The increased frequency of bridge closures for Brightline trains to cross the river is expected to create safety obstacles for mariners, according to local officials. The bridge’s clearance is about 6.5 feet above mean high tide.
