The Issue

Our City of Moose Jaw is on the brink of a significant decision that could drastically affect our environment and quality of life. The proposed AI data centre is set to be built in the heart of our cherished natural space, an area that has been a sanctuary for wildlife and a tranquil escape for residents.

As someone who has spent countless afternoons walking through these trails, listening to the gentle rustle of the leaves and the soothing calls of local birds, the thought of this space being overtaken by industrial noise and pollution is both heartbreaking and alarming. The construction of the data centre not only threatens to disrupt the habitat of countless wildlife species but also poses a risk of increased air and noise pollution that could affect our health and well-being.

According to studies, data centres of this scale can significantly increase local temperatures due to the heat generated by servers. This heat emission can further exacerbate the warming of our environment, contributing to the global climate crisis. Moreover, the noise pollution from cooling systems could render our peaceful surroundings unrecognizable.

We understand the importance of technological advancement, but it should not come at the expense of our environment and community well-being. Alternatives exist. There are potential sites in industrial zones where this impact would be minimized, or innovative solutions such as using renewable energy to power the data centre and incorporating state-of-the-art soundproofing technology.

By signing this petition, you are voicing your support to preserve Moose Jaw's natural beauty and ensure a sustainable future. Let us urge local authorities to reconsider the location of the AI data centre and explore eco-friendly alternatives that do not sacrifice our precious natural spaces. Please sign and share this petition to safeguard our community's future.
