Big Noise Raploch - Securing the future for aspiring young musicians.

Stirling Council's priority based budgeting process has identified Big Noise as one area to face possible funding cuts. They have proposed to reduce funding per year from £500,000 to £275,000.  This will have a massive effect on the services that Big Noise (Sistema Scotland) provide to the local community in Raploch and in particular the vast amount of children who have been, and continue to be involved in the project.

Big Noise Raploch is the first of its kind in Scotland and planted the seed that has now grown and is being expanded throughout the country and is now in 3 other major cities in Scotland.

Now about to celebrate its 10th year Big Noise is all about allowing children to develop music skills that they may never have had the opportunity to learn.  This has allowed a number of children to go on and develop their music within The National Youth Orchestra for Scotland, The National Jazz Orchestra and The Royal Orchestra of Great Britain.  The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is a world-leading conservatoire of music, drama, dance, production and film located in Glasgow and is currently being attended by a Big Noise "graduate".

The expansion of Big Noise to the wider community in Raploch has now seen it grow to include a Baby Noise section where pre-school kids get to experience the music being played and learned, an Adult Noise where parents and other members of the community can attend and learn an instrument and they also have a singing section.

As a parent with one child attending Big Noise after school and another within the nursery who experiences Big Noise, I can say that I have noticed a definite change for the better within my children. They are gaining confidence, social skills, team participation, and the discipline required to be able to learn a musical instrument. All of which I think are skills that can be transferred to other aspects of their lives.

Please sign and share this petition to highlight the major benefits that the Big Noise has brought and can continue to bring to our community.
