G’day and thanks for signing the petition to ban our seemingly under-informed and politically-motivated alarmist coral scientists from industrial scale interference with the Great Barrier Reef. You may wonder how we’ve come to this. How can scientists that are paid from the public purse become so untrustworthy that ordinary folk feel the need to start petitions to have them reined in? “Consensus” is the ‘tell’ that this debate is now about political ideology and not science. “Consensus” has a place in politics and in religion – but it has no natural home in science. It only takes one person plus the facts to prove any “consensus”, “97%” or otherwise, to be wrong. In the proper Popperian scientific method, scepticism is the scientists’ friend and not their enemy. Scepticism, verifiable measurement and reproducible experimentation are how science advances. Ideologically-driven model-based pseudo-science can only take us backwards. In 2016 Professor Peter Ridd pointed out flaws in coral researchers’ work and was censured by JCU for “failing to act in a collegial way and in the academic spirit of the institution”. That made it obvious to all that ideologues had taken over. Today, March 29, 2017, even TheirABC(TM) was forced to face the reality that the new US administration intends to de-fund climate alarmism and the US EPA’s regulatory over-reach. Now is the time for all CatastrophicAnthropogenicGlobalWarming(TM) sceptics and scientific realists to begin the push back. The alarmists’ gravy train has a lot of momentum. We need to deprive it’s axles of the grease of public funding. Every small action has a cumulative effect, so please, tell others about this petition and then remind them to sign. ChangeDotOrg says it’s already doing better than 85% of the petitions they host, even though it’s only been up a short time. What’s my motivation? Well, I’m a ‘relaxivist’, so it’s my way of helping real people and real coral in the real world. Relaxivism is the use of reason and logic to calm a fellow citizen who has become alarmed or agitated by prophecies put forward by special interest groups. Relaxivism strives to remove hysteria and emotion from debates and to replace it with rationality and scepticism. Anyone can be a relaxivist.
