Bayview extension in Toronto should be 60km per hour

Recently there has been work done on the Bayview Extension from Pottery Road to River Street.
This has improved cyclist and pedestrian safety by creating a lane, with guard rail, to separate this path from the road.
While pedestrian traffic is a smaller percentage a large volume of cyclists can now ride with a dedicated lane protected from the flow of traffic.
The recent reduction of the speed from 60/kmh to 50/kmh is counter productive to the movement of vehicles in Toronto.
Some 10 years back it was reduced from 70/kmh to 60/kmh and while there is no residential along this corridor I can only assume this was intended to improve safety for cyclists.
Now with the enhanced safety measures this further reduction is unreasonable.
This recent reduction only serves to delay motorists and provide law enforcement with an opportunity to issue speeding infractions.
Construction and development creates so many delays in Toronto that motorists are becoming increasingly agitated and I would suggest that road rage will be further escalated with these poorly thought out “Vision Zero” initiatives.
Slower speeds may lessen the severity of accidents but frustrated drivers will increase the number of incidents.
Please sign this petition to allow motorists and cyclists (pedestrians) to travel freely and safely along this route while maintaining a reasonable rate of speed.
