We’re over 300,000 signatures, and we need to keep our momentum going! Just yesterday, CBS News reports that 100s of Jews and allies came together in solidarity to protest the President Elect’s cabinet pick Steve Bannon, who is known for running the Alt-Right media site Breitbart. Breitbart, Bannon’s site, is a direct attack on people of color and the Muslim faith as the site features heinous stories that focus on marginalized groups in negative and defamatory light. The site gives a bird’s eye view into the mind of the alt-right who carelessly skew facts while showing little to no regard for how the site (which acquires over 70 million views per month) impacts the real people it portrays so viciously. The Washington Post recently reported on members of the alt-right celebrating Donald Trump’s win for President with the infamous Nazi greeting that is chilling reminder of the Hitler era where millions of Jews were tortured, starved, and eventually murdered in concentration camps which we now refer to as the Holocaust. Bannon, when asked, has denied being a white supremacist but instead refers to himself as an “economic nationalist.” Bannon appeared in divorce court where his ex-wife revealed that while the pair were married Bannon made disturbing remarks about where he felt his children should attend school. She told the court Bannon expressed, “he didn’t want his children ‘going to school with whiny Jews.’” The Sunday protest attracted young and old and showed Jewish children holding signs with the word “Whiny” written on them. The protesters marched in solidarity from La Cienega Park to Breitbart’s office which is located close to Wilshire Boulevard. Our country’s intolerance toward hate is growing, and we must continue to send a very clear message to Bannon and people who share his beliefs that we won’t tolerate a threat to our rights or safety.
