Steak 'n Shake: Stop intimidating people who complain about bad customer service!

The Issue

On February 23rd, 2013, my wife and I stopped in at the Mount Prospect, IL Steak 'n Shake for a quick breakfast. There were, at the time, fewer than a dozen other customers, at four or five tables, in the restaurant. We were seated, and waited for someone to take our order.

We waited... and waited... and waited some more. Everyone else in the establishment had already been served, and a server came out twice to refill coffee cups, but she never came to our table.

We are not invisible. We are a clean, presentable middle-aged couple who just wanted a bite to eat.

After almost fifteen minutes I tired of being ignored, and walked to the door, yelling toward the kitchen that I was taking my business elsewhere. My wife called out for a manager, but she too was ignored.

The following day I submitted a complaint on Steak 'n Shake's corporate website, and received an email shortly thereafter stating that the issue would be forwarded to the district manager, who would be contacting me.

After nearly three months, having received no contact from the district manager, I again went to their corporate website on May 19, 2013 and submitted another complaint urging them to refer to the incident number I had been assigned in February, and wondering why no one had contacted me.

On May 28th I received a letter via certified mail from their Director of Corporate Law, indicating that my wife and I have been banned from all Steak 'n Shake restaurants because of OUR behavior; and that, if we were to set foot inside one of their restaurants, we would be committing "criminal trespass."

THIS is how Steak 'n Shake responds to complaints.

On the same day I received Mr. Paige's nastygram, I sent my reply, also via certified mail, asking him to explain how my wife and I had become villains in the events of February 23rd. The letter was signed for on May 31st. I have yet - once again - to receive a response.

Please sign this petition to let Steak 'n Shake know that they can't treat customers as criminals for pointing out flaws in their customer service.
