I set up this petition so that opinions and comments about the changes to NEF funding could be collated and provided to the Education Minister. The intention was to show the urgent need for open honest and thorough consultation before any decisions about changes to NEF funding are made. The reports in the media yesterday, and comments on social media, have been very confusing. I wish to clarify that I have nothing to do with organising any proposed meeting in the Royal Square; furthermore the comments attributed to me in the JEP yesterday do not accurately reflect the statements I made. To the best of my knowledge, there is in fact no meeting / rally / public protest being organised in the Royal Square, and parents are solely being encouraged to attend the public meeting inside the States Building. On Tuesday 29th March I sent out an update advising signatories of this petition that a scrutiny meeting was being held on Wednesday 6th April and encouraging people to attend the Royal Square at 12 noon on that day. My email was sent with the intention of sharing information that I had become aware of by virtue of a post being shared on Facebook. The post was written by Val Payne, JEYA Chair, and stated that Deputy Doublet was urging parents to attend. I have now spoken to both Val Payne and Deputy Doublet and discovered that the content of this message was not intended to encourage people to “rally" in the Royal Square, but to meet there before attending the scrutiny meeting to share their concerns. Deputy Doublet has confirmed that members of the public are always welcome in her public hearings, as with all scrutiny hearings, but this is inside the States building not in the Royal Square itself. I should not have shared and endorsed the original message without verifying it and obtaining further information first. I apologise for my role in any confusion caused.
