Action needed: almost 1000 Signatures

Dear Supporters,

Thank you so much already for taking a hard stance for the interdisciplinarity of economic teaching and research! In 2019, the struggle over pluralism continues. Unfortunately, the year change didn't alter the oppression on the professorship at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin).

On the 8th of November, 2018, at the biannual HWR Scientific Council meeting (Kuratoriumssitzung), the HWR Alumni and Students joined their efforts and condemned the suppressive practices directly to the addressees of the Petition. All of them, namely, the State Secretary for Science and Research, President of the HWR Berlin, and the Dean of the Economics Department, together with the Scientific Council, professors, and the public then continued to debate the issue. The addressees were accordingly informed about the Petition. The protocols of the HWR Scientific Council meeting can be found here in German and in English (automatic translation).

As a result of the emotional debate, the State Secretary for Science and Research of Berlin, Steven Krach, for the conflicting parties (pluralist professors' group and the Dean of the Economic Department) proposed:
1) to negotiate the issue with the third party mediators and
2) have a reporting meeting with him in April 2019, two months before the next Kuratoriumssitzung in June 2019.

Unfortunately, this event was not effective enough for the negotiations to begin.

Today, the Social-Ecological Alliance of HWR Berlin (Sozialökologisches Bündnis der HWR Berlin) and Germany's Network for Pluralist Economics (Netzwerk Plurale Ökonomik e.V.) have published an open letter in the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel, strongly denouncing the continuing developments at the HWR Berlin.
