The Lenape Nation of Pa. this past year has suffered the loss of one of our elders and long time proponent of recognition Richard Welker. In his honor as well as many other elders and ancestors that have walked on, we must continue this quest for the state of Pa to acknowledge that there are descendants of the Original People still living within the area of Lenapehokink.
There are groups of Lenape tribal entities that were forced into removal, and have received Federal Recognition both in the USA and Canada.
Due to Colonization, Genocide, and Assimilation, we have been separated from these groups on both the Federal and State level.
Currently, the "powers that be" would rather turn our groups against each other, which is historically always been a problem, than acknowledge that there were some that stayed in the Homeland.
Make no mistake, we acknowledge the Diaspora and welcome them back to their ancestral homeland.
It's time for Pennsylvania to acknowledge our group also.
