Empty Buildings are Leased for $1 a Week to Profitable Businesses, Why Can't We House the Homeless?

If the Melbourne council can rent properties as peppercorn agreements for $1 a week, surely we could use some of these unused buildings, empty schools and hospitals to help house the homeless and give them back some dignity. With the housing shortage and rental costs being incredibly high the amount of homeless will increase daily, and no one seems to care. Governments help major corporations and spend obscene amounts on sport, housing refugees, perks and Politicians’ expenses.
