As social media becomes more prevalent in today's world, particularly, in relation to how consumers view entertainment new ways are developed for networks to track and measure these audiences. One of these ways, as explained in the article attached below from 1428 Elm, is the Nielsen's Social Content Ratings. The NSCR was created to keep track of all program-related social media activity on Twitter and Facebook (and Instagram) to gauge show's popularities, demographics and more. As per explained by the official NSCR site,
"Social Content Ratings metrics are designed to adhere to the social media measurement guidelines created by the Media Rating Council (MRC), breaking down total activity into original “authored” content, such as posts and Tweets, and “engagement” with that content, such as comments and Retweets. Social Content Ratings also provides age and gender demographics for Facebook. Unique audience and impressions for Facebook, planned for a later date, will quantify the number of people seeing program-related activity."
In addition, STARZ chief marketing officer Alison Hoffman remarked in a TheWrap article back in May,
"...networks want to see passion from a fan base when they are deciding whether to renew a show, and that social media has become a key way to gauge that passion. During the season — and after a series gets canceled — execs keep an eye on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to take note of which shows have vocal supporters. There’s an intensity that you look for, a level of engagement. "
As you can clearly see, the more activity on social media, in other words, the more AVED articles, artwork, merchandise, etc with hashtags of #BruceCampbell #AshvsEvilDead #BringBackBoomstick helps the NSCR and STARZ measure the popularity of Ash vs Evil Dead on social media and therefore helps AVED's chances of getting renewed for S4 (and 5). So get to it! Don't stop asking for Ash vs Evil S4. Retweet anything and everything AVED related! Share and sign the petition! There is much hope left for AVED, after all.
