Despite personal opinions about them, incarcerated persons are entitled to adequate medical care just like everyone else. Recently, I was asked to advocate for a young lady who is currently incarcerated and being denied treated that could very well safe her life. I contacted some prisons officials, and I am told that she is now scheduled to get the testing and medical care that she needs.

I have a son who is an incarcerated person and as a mother it breaks my heart to hear his stories of inadequate medical care that he has needed and still needs but is either denied or given just enough so that it can be documented that he was seen. Far too often, I hear stories of medical care being denied because the "authorities" deem the requests as just attention getting.

This disgusting reality is yet another reason why a "Family Liaison" is necessary. Incarcerated persons and those who love them NEED a person behind those walls that they can rely on to be compassionate voice and consistent advocate!
