This picture is an unusual depiction of what really happens during the holidays for incarcerated persons and their families. None of the state prisons that housed my son offered this interaction. Holidays are special times for families and inmates feel that hole just like those of us outside the prison walls.

A few weeks ago, a photographer reached out to me with a heartfelt offer to go into a local prison to take holiday pictures of the incarcerated persons and their families during visitations. I called the prison and left three messages for the person that the operator forwarded me to. Weeks later I have not heard back from anyone. If there was a "FAMILY LIAISON" on site, I could have connected with that person to address this issue.
