I remember many moons ago, 25 years or perhaps even longer, having to get two buses from Peel to the Isle of Man College. To this day, the situation remains unchanged for students traveling from the West. There are buses direct from other areas on the island to the college, yet students from the West are still faced with the time-consuming and inconvenient task of making a complicated journey every day during term-time.

This lack of direct transportation puts unnecessary strain on students from the West, who have to factor in long commute times, limiting their ability to engage in extracurricular activities, study, or even just rest. A direct bus route from the Western region to the Isle of Man College would not only simplify the daily routine for these students but also enhance their educational experience by providing them with more time and energy to focus on their studies.

According to recent travel surveys, transportation is a significant concern for many students in the Isle of Man, affecting attendance and punctuality. Initiating a direct bus route is a feasible solution that could make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and their families.

This would not only benefit the students but would also align with the government's goal to improve public transportation and reduce traffic congestion. Furthermore, a dedicated bus route could help reduce the carbon footprint associated with multiple bus rides and carpooling. By making public transport more accessible and efficient, we can take a significant step forward in promoting sustainable practices on the island.

We call on the Department of Transport to recognize the ongoing challenges faced by students from the West of the Isle of Man and to take immediate action to implement a direct bus service during term-time. The benefits to our community are clear and profound.
