Thousands of you have asked Starbucks to give vegan food a shot, and the chain is listening. On a recent earnings call, Starbucks announced plans to keep brewing up plant-based menu items to help boost sales. Already this year, the coffee giant has poured out a protein-packed vegan lentil bowl and vegan cupcakes in select cities, and last month it unveiled a new line of almond milk Frappuccinos to hit retail shelves in 2018.
Starbucks’ quarterly earnings reportedly fell short of expectations, so the chain is turning to menu innovation to heat up sales. And according to VegNews, CEO Kevin Johnson named “plant-based modifiers, including almond, coconut, and soy milk alternatives” as one of Starbucks’ fast-growing areas that it will focus on and added, “Not only are these fast growing platforms highly relevant to our customers, our research demonstrates that they also provide a significant opportunity to drive [sales] outside of our core morning sales window.”
Although we’re still awaiting hearty vegan food at Starbucks nationwide, the chain is already creating a latte smiles with plant-based options in many of its cafes. If you’ve spotted a delicious vegan treat at your local Starbucks, tell us about it by emailing veganSBUX@cok.net.
And keep sharing our petition! According to one Starbucks rep, “Plant-based beverages and alternatives [are a] big area of opportunity for us and our customers are asking for it.” As the chain hears directly from consumers, it will respond to the strong demand for vegan food nationwide!
