Hi Vidwest members and supporters,
On August 4 the City released a draft budget that zeroed out funding for community media. We knew this budget was coming, but it was still a disappointment to see a public document that doesn't reflect public input.
Since October, 6, 2025 a community member has spoken at every City Council meeting - approximately 21 meetings - in support of funding community media. Hundreds of residents have also emailed and signed a petition asking the council members to weigh on in the budget created by Staff.
City Council members know that community media is valued. Over the next month they have the power to add amendments to the City budget to include funding for community media. This path is the only way left for re-instating public funds for community media.
If you wish to weigh on this topic of public concern, there are two more City Council meetings you can attend (Sept 8 @ 7pm and Sept 21 @ 7pm).

It is your right to be heard by your elected representatives. Their decision will not only affect your community and access to community resources, but future generations of Columbia residents.
Sincerely,
Vidwest Staff
