A few supporters have received responses from Rhiannon Lee and Richard Di Natale, they are both pretty much the same email, but it's a start. I will post one below. I'll update again mid week. If everyone could PLEASE sign this petitio it is against Live Export but on a GLOBAL scale zexporthttps://www.animalsinternational.org/take_action/live-export-global/ Here is the reply from Rhiannon Lee (The Greens) "The Greens share your dismay such a trade could be allowed to continue, and have long been campaigning for a ban to the trade and a transition to a boxed meat export industry. We are committed to continuing this fight, and will be reintroducing the Greens’ Live Animal Export (Slaughter) Prohibition Bill soon. This bill bans the export of livestock and was first introduced into the Senate in 2011 and again in 2012 and in 2014, with that latest bill lapsing at the last election when the Coalition and Labor showed no interest in supporting an end to this barbaric trade. You can read Senator Rhiannon’s second reading speech here. The Greens will be reintroducing the bill again soon. The Greens also have a five point plan for a just transition towards an economically sustainable chilled meat trade. A history of breaches and complete lack of action shows that the Department of Agriculture is incapable of regulating the live export trade. The Department is inherently conflicted as it is charged with promoting live exports and overseeing the treatment of the animals exported. The Greens also introduced the Independent Office of Animal Welfare Bill in 2015, which creates an independent body and removes the Agriculture Minister, the industry and their excuses, from the current equation that has them effectively condoning the animal abuse that is continuing right now under this government, and which continued under the purview of the previous Labor governments. We are redrafting the Independent Office of Animal Welfare Bill to incorporate amendments suggested by submissions to the previous Senate inquiry into the bill. The Greens are the only major party to have an Animal Welfare spokesperson. Senator Rhiannon has spent many years working with animal welfare organisations and animal rights activists to improve how our society treats animals. You can read more about our various animal welfare campaigns here: http://lee-rhiannon.greensmps.org.au/campaigns. Thank you again for being a voice for animals and for calling on Australian politicians to put a stop to this cruelty. Only by working together can we end the live exports trade once and for all.
