Save Scottish Rugby
The Issue
The SRU is destroying rugby in Scotland even after a recording breaking year they still want to line their pockets more as they put more focus on money than developing rugby.
They have evicted Murrayfield Wanderers from their home at Murrayfield so they can make money from Wanderers existing clubhouse. This eviction has effectively destroyed the club as they struggle to find funding and training and match facilities for their upcoming season. It has prompted the Wandies Women to abandon the club as they seek funding hopefully from the newly formed super 6 team Heriots, destroying the history of the most successful women's rugby team in Scottish History. The Thebans rugby team, the gay inclusive rugby team, who were associated with the club will also seek alternative training and match facilities from Murrayfield Wanderers.
Even the touch rugby section, who provide a stepping stone and introduction into the world of rugby and keep people of all ages, genders involved in rugby whether they are new to rugby, still playing or retired, are still searching for somewhere they can continue to play once the SRU kick them out of Murrayfield.
The men have been greatly impacted too by the eviction. They have lost many key players due to the uncertainty caused by the SRU and have struggled to reach player numbers to compete and have forfeited their first 2 matches due to lack of players.
The club is also heavily involved in the school of hard knocks and developing rugby with schools in the local area. So it is unclear what facilities can be used for this going forward.
The SRU should be supporting rugby at all levels and where is better to play rugby than the grounds of Scottish Rugby itself. The team causes no damage to the artificial pitches and encourages people to join. But the SRU would rather make more money than help support rugby.
Please help us to get the SRU to reinstate Murrayfield Wanderers to their home inside Murrayfield itself. Even if it is just for the touch team so they can have somewhere to continue playing weekly or for the Men's team when the weather is poor. The SRU have destroyed Murrayfield Wanderers as a club so should be doing all they can to help rebuild it instead of abandoning them and forgotten their role to develop rugby in Scotland.
