Finalmente abbiamo raggiunto le prime 1.000 firme. Ci abbiamo messo un po’ (più di un anno in realtà), ma temi del genere, in periodi pieni di altre priorità come questo, stentano sempre a catturare l’attenzione. Eppure in tanti hanno capito l’importanza (economica, culturale, simbolica) che potrebbe avere per la Sardegna riuscire a intestarsi una piccola parte di web e hanno offerto il loro supporto. Le firme raccolte sino a oggi chiaramente non sono sufficienti e il traguardo finale resta il raggiungimento del tetto delle 10.000 firme, numero che potrebbe realmente testimoniare l’effettiva esistenza di una comunità di interessi per la quale sia giustificata la creazione di un nuovo dominio di primo livello, il .srd appunto. Notizie recenti parlano di un nuovo turno di assegnazioni di domini previsto da ICANN probabilmente per il 2020, quindi non dobbiamo far altro che continuare a pubblicizzare la petizione in modo che molte più persone firmino, per poter dimostrare i buoni livelli di interesse e di supporto raggiunti agli importanti soggetti (politici, economici, culturali) che dovranno necessariamente appoggiare l’iniziativa in sede di richiesta. It took a while (more than a year, indeed) but, in times like these that are full of other priorities, these kinds of subjects find it hard to catch the eye. Nonetheless, many people have understood the importance (economic, cultural, symbolic) that might have for Sardinia to succeed in owning a tiny little part of the web, and they offered their support. The signatures we have got so far are not enough, of course, and the finishing line is reaching 10.000 signatures, a number that could truly be proof that a real community of interests does exist, which justifies the creation of a new top level domain: the .srd. Recent news talk about a new gTLD round, probably in 2020, so all we have to do is continue to advertise the petition so that many other people can sign; this will show to the important subjects (political, economic, cultural) the good level of interest and support that we have reached, and should push them to back the initiative when the application time arrives.
