Action against erring officials of Police station sunlight colony & justice for Kalu
The Issue
We have witnessed so many cases of animal cruelty in the NCT Delhi over the past two years including the recent stabbing of innocent stray dogs in the green park area of New Delhi but the one responsible is still roaming free. This case is no different, on 3 April I noticed a dog with a rope tightened around its neck in the vicinity of Siddhartha Extension Pocket C under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sunlight Colony New Delhi 110014 much to my horror it was a healthy docile loving stray dog I called Kalu who I used to feed regularly. I couldnt contain the anger and resentment but I was helpless as I had visited the local police station many times informing them of some anti social elements in the vicinity wanting to kill dogs and who had been found beating various stray dogs. I tried to stop them everytime but had to face their ire and when I turned to the local police they threatened me instead of helping out. The local area SHO and many of the officals of the said police station as always reluctant on filing an FIR and displaying apathy. This time too regardless of having made a call to the PCR on the same day and the local police station having been intimated of the case it took them three hours to show up. I then had the body taken to SGACC where they agreed to preserve it and an official of the said police station agreed get a postmortem done the next day but much to my dismay the officals of the said police station refused to accompany me the next day and instead the IO as well as the SHO told me that I shouldnt teach them about the law and they are at liberty to decide whether to lodge an FIR or not. I was intimidated asked to mind my own business and then made to leave the police station. I finally got some help and managed to persuade an official of the said police station to accompany me to SGACC and get the postmortem done. After four days from the date of the incident an FIR was finally lodged on 7th April only after I refused to budge and with support from an NGO.
Kalu is no more but his memories will linger on. Can I expect the police to act against its erring officials and question the suspects? Investigate? Bring the one responsible to book?
Unless all of us Unite this apathetic attitude of the administration towards cases involving animal cruelty will continue.
In view of the above you are all requested to sign the petition and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
