It was announced this week that First Group will be taking over the franchise, which includes our stations, and has been run by Stagecoach (South West Trains) for over 20 years. One of our team will be meeting with FirstGroup to discuss our campaign and benefits of bringing contactless payment and Zone 6 to our stations. We had already been in contact with both South West Trains and FirstGroup regarding our petition and both companies are fully aware of what we want brought to our stations. We have redirected our petition to Tim O'Toole, the CEO of FirstGroup. FirstGroup will pay premiums with a net present value of £2.6bn over seven years for the right to run the service. The new operator will be obliged to introduce 90 brand-new trains by 2020 on suburban services around south-west London and running to Windsor and Reading. We have been working hard behind the scenes getting questions into Parliament and there are also some questions which have been aired at the Mayor's question time which was held on 22nd March. Zone 6 is a hot topic, with other Surrey stations also petitioning. Spelthorne Borough Council have welcomed this new announcement and hope that FirstGroup will be encouraged to move us into Zone 6.
