Dear Speak for the Water supporters,

We are now 548 voices strong, calling on New Mexico to protect the future of water in the Middle Rio Grande.

Thank you.

Every signature represents someone willing to say something simple but important: before we move more water from an already stressed basin, we need to understand what we are losing.

Our river is drying for longer periods. Our aquifers, acequias, farms, domestic wells, ecosystems, and communities all depend on an interconnected and increasingly limited water supply. Yet decisions about water transfers continue to be made one at a time, without fully accounting for the combined impacts on the future of the Middle Rio Grande.

That is why Speak for the Water is asking the State Engineer and Interstate Stream Commission for a temporary moratorium on additional Middle Rio Grande water transfers while those cumulative impacts are evaluated.

This is not about stopping growth or saying water can never move. It is about making sure that, before more decisions are made, we understand what is necessary to sustain a living river, our aquifers, acequias and agriculture, wildlife, domestic water security, and the generations that will come after us.

548 people have already spoken in support of the water. Now we need to grow this movement.

Please share the petition with your family, neighbors, colleagues, and communities and ask them to stand with us.

The Rio Grande is telling us something. Together, we can make sure New Mexico listens.

¡El agua es vida!
