Have strictly enforced effective laws protecting our community animals against cruel abuse
The Issue
There have been many cases of animal abuse in this country - such as the non-stop cat killings in Yishun and Khatib a few years ago. Animal abuse cases have never stopped. Yet, I seldom see people being held accountable and charged for it. This particular 15 year old cat in the picture, lovingly named Ah Gu by their community, was brutally beaten up to death and strung up at a HDB block in Bedok on 14 March 2020.
It is high time that we take these animal abuse cases seriously and hold those who commit such atrocities accountable. Animals like our street cats and dogs have seldom harmed anyone. They are often friendly to strangers and offer us comfort and love even if we do not give them anything in return. They are also often the result of irresponsible pet owners abandoning their pets, and rather than having a good home, they suffer at the hands of these cruel people instead. The least we could do is to ensure their safety in our communities.
I beg my fellow Singaporeans, young or old, animal lovers or not, to join me and fight for a change that will keep our communities’ furry friends safe.
