Southwark Park is hired out by Southwark Council for events, film making & other commercial activity. This commercial activity restricts access to, and can interfere with enjoyment of, Southwark Park. Southwark Park needs substantial repair, improvement and investment. Rotherhithe / Canada Water / Surrey Quays population is projected grow over 65%. Southwark Park hire fees must be reinvested back into Southwark Park to pay for park improvements and our park must benefit from a fair share of annual Southwark parks budget (revenue & capital) commensurate / proportional with the leading role Southwark Park plays in the borough. Historically, it was the Vestry of Bermondsey who suggested that our park would be better used as "children's play areas” and today child, youth & family play, events and entertainment must once again be at the heart of Southwark Park -  A park for everyone! Southwark Park Lantern & Lights Festival, aka Alice in Winterland, will provide money to improve our park and help pay towards free events enjoyed by many people including the annual fireworks display & Bermondsey Carnival. Please support this petition which will be provided to Southwark Council and help ensure Southwark Park hire fees are reinvested back into Southwark Park.
