Request Southwark Council to revoke the recent planning permission 18/AP/3420

A revised scheme has been granted planning permission for the Clipper pub site, opposite the location for the Rotherhithe Bridge.

It is unfortunately an eyesore, a sad fate for the pretty Clipper to be replaced by this unpleasant building. It will overhang the pavement and dominate the street scene, and due to its massive size, it will damage the amenities of surrounding properties.

We mounted a campaign to keep the Clipper pub, which failed, But due to great community engagement between Councillors, developers and residents, a high quality scheme was then approved. In its materials and design it mirrored the listed warehouses nearby and included a commercial unit at ground floor. Designed to contribute to and not damage the local heritage.

The plot was then resold and the current owners chose not to build this scheme, but applied for planning of a bigger and lower quality building. This has now just received planning permission without the opportunity to be assessed by Councillors at Committee.

The developer has had permission to demolish the Clipper pub since March 2017, so could have demolished it at any time. Instead he has chosen to leave it standing derelict.

Please support this petition to request that Southwark Council revoke the planning permission. So that either the previously approved scheme or a high quality revised scheme can be built.
