Sarah Daniels started this petition to Southern Rail UK

Southern Rail manages 156 stations across the south of England. Many of their stations have patches of land that are home to large populations of wild flowers, insects, and birds. Sadly, Southern Rail's current policies include regular strimming to remove vegetation, followed by extensive spraying with weedkillers now banned as dangerous carcinogens in many countries. This destroys the plants along with all insect life, and removes an essential source of food for birds.

As part of the fight against ecological breakdown we're now facing, Southern Rail should immediately:

1) End all use of herbicides.

2) Cancel all strimming/mowing apart from where there is a pressing health and safety need. In such cases cutting should be restricted to twice yearly.

3) Actively encourage wildlife at its stations to contribute to the essential rewilding of the UK that is necessary to prevent ecological breakdown. This could include the establishment of bug hotels, bird feeding stations, sowing of wildflower seeds, or the planting of shrubs and trees valuable to wildlife. Engagement of this kind could involve the companies currently employed in ground maintenance, thereby preventing loss of earnings to those companies.
